October Meeting: Metabolic Psychiatry

We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Iain Campbell from Edinburgh University’s Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences to our October meeting. Iain delivered an excellent presentation about groundbreaking research in metabolic psychiatry and how he manages his symptoms of bipolar with a ketogenic diet.

Metabolic psychiatry is an emerging field of research that looks at connections between metabolism and mental health. Dr. Campbell is a leading researcher in the field and has played an essential role in exploring the use of the ketogenic diet as a therapeutic treatment for bipolar. Evidence from his recent research study and his own personal experience has given many a lot of hope for this new approach to treating bipolar.

Dr. Campbell also presented a short video about seasonal mood fluctuations for people living with bipolar as well as examined the strong connection between creativity and bipolar disorder in our group discussion.
