About the event
This month's speaker: Author Graham Morgan, MBE
Graham has a diagnosis of Schizophrenia and works for the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland as an Engagement officer. He wrote a well-received book called 'Start' some years ago about his experiences.
Graham, who has an MBE for services to mental health, helped to create the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, that same legislation under which he has been on a compulsory treatment order for some years.
He lives in Argyll with his partner, Wendy, her children and Dash the dog.
Despite being compulsorily treated he has a wonderful life. He spends a lot of time travelling round Scotland finding out about the issues people with Lived experience are facing. He is looking forward to returning to the group and hopes to speak about the Commission, but also the relationships we have with professionals.
Graham is particularly interested in the impacts of mental illnesses on relationships and on diagnosis. He would welcome hearing about any issues you may face in the local area.
The format of this hybrid meeting is that we normally have a guest speaker talking about a topic that's bipolar-related, then for those attending in-person, we mix and chat for a while over tea and coffee Please feel free to stay for a chat on Zoom, meeting finishes by 8.45pm.
If you're new to Bipolar Edinburgh and are joining us via Zoom for the first time, then please feel free to email us at info@bipolaredinburgh.org.uk and we can arrange an optional 10-minute welcome and introduction session over Zoom with you where we can answer any questions you might have.
Please read our Comfort Agreement which is in place to make sure everyone has a safe and comfortable space to share personal experiences.
