About the event

This month's speaker: Julie A. Fast: The Ketogenic Metabolic Therapy Diet for Bipolar Disorder

This month our guest speaker is best-selling author Julie A. Fast, a world leading mental health expert on the topics of bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety and psychosis.

Julie is the top bipolar disorder management writer in the world with over 500,000 books sold and 15 million views of her online work for bp Magazine, Psychology Today and other publications. Julie lives with bipolar disorder and a psychotic disorder.

We are excited to have Julie speak with us via Zoom on Thursday! Please join us to hear what Julie has to say about diet.

For most people, a balanced diet keeps moods relatively stable, and promotes healthy aging.

But as you know, you’re not most people. You have bipolar disorder and a balanced diet is rarely enough to manage mood swings or help with the weight gain and other health concerns associated with medication induced metabolic syndrome.

Any diet used to manage bipolar disorder and at the same time prevent metabolic syndrome needs to address the role of insulin in the bipolar brain. Luckily, a diet originally created to help manage epilepsy called the ketogenic metabolic therapy diet shows great promise in helping people with bipolar disorder.

This is a hybrid meeting giving attendees the choice to either join us at our new venue the Edinburgh Training & Conference Venue, 16 St. Mary’s Street, Edinburgh EH1 1SU or online via Zoom. The meeting is for everyone affected by bipolar including carers, family, and friends.

The meeting provides a safe confidential space to access peer support and learn new ways of managing bipolar including sharing our personal experiences.  We normally have a guest speaker at the beginning of the meeting talking about a topic relating to bipolar then have a chat over tea and coffee. The meeting finishes at 8:30pm.  Please feel free to stay on Zoom for a chat after the speaker finishes!

NB: If you are attending in person for the first time, then please come along early at 18:45 to an Introduction & Welcome which takes place immediately before the meeting.
